HMD Scores 1st PSVs
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea has contracted four newbuilding platform support vessels, from a European shipowner, said in a regulatory filing on March 8.
The contract values at KRW 221.5bn (about $196.2m), about 5.9% of overall turnover in 2010 with delivery by May 7 2014. Optional newbuilding included, Hyundai Mipo is possibly to win additional order.
It seems that the newbuilding PSVs are ordered from Norewegian owner and the vessels are to be constructed on the basis of the latest basic design and by owner's specific request.
There was also a rumor that ER Offshore of Germany would award four newbuilding PSVs at Hyundai Mipo, in December last year.
Right before the contract announcement, analyst Huh Sung-Duk, Hi Investment & Securities had forecast, "While new order for commercial ship is getting down-sized, Hyundai Mipo seems inevitable to make strategic decision to expand into offshore market and product carrier and offshore support vessel would settle down as its strategic ships."
Meanwhile, thanks to its recent order for PSVs, Hyundai Mipo has secured a total of 12 vessels or around $600m of orders this year - six MR product carriers, two 20,550-cbm LPG carriers, besides four PSVs.
