Development Bank of Japan (DBJ) recently reported forecast of supply and demand of bulker fleet and demand for bulker newbuilding.
DBJ prospected that newbuilding demand for capesize bulker would recover in 2016, handymax and smaller-sized bulker after 2017, while panamax had been difficult to predict.
The recent report by DBJ has projected recovery in demand for bulker, one of Japanese shipbuilders' major products, to look ahead into future Japanese shipbuilding industry.
The report forecast that newbuilding demand would start to recover about two years earlier thanks to slow steaming, while imbalance between supply and demand seemed difficult to get better.
On the premise of high scrapping to be continued and newbuilding delivery, ordered after July 2011, not taking into account, global bulker tonnage would increase by the top of 700m dwt in 2013 and around 600m dwt in 2015, just over the level seen in 2010.
