Grieg Maritime exercises options for two more open hatch bulkers
Norway’s Grieg Maritime Group has signed an order for two open hatch vessels at Huangpu Wenchong Longxue taking its newbuild tally at the yard to four.
The Matt Duke-led company has exercised an option for two more ammonia-ready 82，300 dwt units after placing firm orders for two vessels at the CSSC-affiliated yard in May.
No price has been revealed for the order， which will see the first of the four vessels deliver in the spring of 2026， with the following three throughout the year. All ships will be Norwegian-flagged， DVN-classed and meet the EEDI Phase 3 requirements.
Internally dubbed “PulpMax”， the ship’s design has been developed with input from Grieg Shipbrokers and G2 Ocean， a joint venture between Gearbulk and Grieg Star. The 225 m long newbuilds will dwarf the 50，800 dwt L-class， previously the latest and largest vessels in Grieg’s fleet.
Grieg Maritime said it has decided to change the vessels’ crane setup， where each ship will have two centre VFD fully electric cranes that will be able to lift 120 metric tons each， with a tandem of 240 metric tons， while front and aft， it will have two 75 metric tons VFD fully electric cranes. The units will be equipped with MAN 10.6 engines have tween-decks in the middle holds， and all be shore-power ready.
