GSI delivered the first ice-reinforced bulk carrier

On May 26th, the first 95,000t ice-reinforced bulk carrier built for Pangaea by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI) set sail from the shipyard.


The vessel, signed and delivered in the afternoon of the 25th, is the first ice-enhanced bulk carrier built by GSIC, with ice-breaking capability reaching Ice-1A class.


It is 229.5m in length overall, 38m in width, 21.3m in depth with a design draft of 12.3m and the scantling draft of 15m. it is designed to have seven cargo holds for loading cargoes, such as coal, ore, grain and the like. Besides, Under the ice class rules provided by DNV GL, this ice-breaker can reach ICE-1A. That means this bulker is capable of breaking ice below 0.8m in thickness under -20cold sea conditions.
