STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said Tuesday that it has won a combined 683 billion won (US$610 million) worth of orders to build eight vessels.
In a 447 billion won contract with Sovcomflot of Russia, STX Offshore will deliver two liquefied natural gas carriers by January 2015, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Under a separate 236 billion won deal with Norwegian shipping firm, John Fredriksen Group, STX Offshore will build six tankers for a European customer by November 2013, it said.
STX Offshore has clinched orders valued at $900 million so far this year to build 15 ships.
Shares of STX Offshore were trading at 17,600 won on the Seoul bourse as of 9:28 a.m., up 3.23 percent.
