Hyundai wins VLGC
Hyundai Heavy Industries has landed the New Year's first newbuilding order.
Industry sources said on Feb. 1st that the world's largest shipbuilder was awarded a contract to build a 84,000㎥ LPG carrier from Indonesian state-owned Pertamina on January 26th.
Delivery is reportedly scheduled for the first half of 2014.
Back in October last year, Hyundai inked a contract to build a 84,000㎥ LPG carrier with the Indonesian oil company.
The vessel was the first very large gas carrier (VLGC) to be ordered by the Jakarta-based company. It is set for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2013 and sources said the price was between $79m and $80m, which appeared to be on the high side as Clarksons claimed it cost just $73m to order a VLGC at that time.
Then Pertamina has secured an option on a second vessel and now the option seems to have been exercised.
Meanwhile, Norwegian owner Solvang also ordered 84,000㎥ VLGC at the same South Korean shipyard in June last year for around $77m.
Recently, China's Taizhou Yuanyang Shipbuilding won an order for a 3,500-cbm LPG carrier newbuilding from.
The vessel is set for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2013 and is said to be costing $14-15m.
