Global New Orders Hit $90 billion

The total value of 2011 new orders comes up to $90.0 billion, almost the same level with last year, while the vessels ordered slid by 50%.
According to Clarkson database, orders for tankers over 10k dwt summed up only to 100 vessels while this number hit 250 in 2010. New ordered bulkers over 10k dwt totaled 1150 in 2010 but fell to only 330 in 2011.
On the contrary, orders for LNG carriers rose from 6 vessels to more than 50 in 2011. Meanwhile, orders for containerships over 8,800TEU also saw 225% up in the whole year. Besides, offshore orders witnessed great boom in 2011 against rising oil price.
