Secondhand Prices Fall in November

In November, due to the depressed freight rates in dry bulk, oil transportation and containership market, the prices for international secondhand bulker, tanker, and containership has been thwarted and end bleakly.

According to the statistics, totally 97 secondhand transactions were concluded in November, 21.77% down compared with last month. The average age for these vessels is 13.08 years old, increasing by 4.41% month-on-month.

In the secondhand bulker market, the trading volume has been regular with the price further falling. Five-year Capesize, Panamax and Handymax are evaluated at $37.15m, $26.83m and $25.13m, falling by 0.675 1.24% and 0.23% respectively. Totally 46 secondhand bulkers are understood to change hand in November, falling by 8% compared with last month.

The volatile international oil price, capacity oversupply and following declining freight rates greatly hurdle tanker owners’ profits and depressed secondhand tanker price. According to the statistics, prices for five-year-old VLCC, Aframax and product tanker are $57.51m, $33.79m and $26.2m, declining by 11.58%, 5.71% and 5.36% respectively. 31 tankers finished transactions in November, 10.7% down month-on-month.

The prices and trading volume for international secondhand boxships have all seen greatly declines in this month. Ten-year-old 3,500-teu, 1,700-teu and 725-teu are valued at $32m, $14.5m and $8.5m, falling by 3.4%, 2.5% and 8.1% on a month-on-month basis. Statistics show totally 4 containerships were traded in November, 75% down with October!
