Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering of South Korea revealed that it won new order for three 17,500-dwt multi-purpose carriers from a state-owned State Company for Maritime Transport of Iraq on 8 December.
The Busan-based yard made a successful bid on 2 November and proceeded negotiation to finalize terms of contract. The newbuilding price is $73.5m ($24.5m per vessel) with delivery to be made by 2013-2014.
With the support from Korean financial institutions, Daesun is going without a hitch regarding performance guarantee and advance payment guarantee, etc., some of which have already completed.
Even in a difficult market these days, Daesun has been focusing on commercial ship sector, by developing energy-efficient vessel and its marketing activities. Also, it is heard that Daesun is looking for entering offshore support division.
