Hyundai Bags VLGC
South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries has inked a contract to build a 84,000-cbm gas carrier with Indonesian oil company Pertamina.
The vessel is the first very large gas carrier (VLGC) to be ordered by the Jakarta-based company.
The vessel is set for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2013 and sources say the price is between $79m and $80m, which appears to be on the high side as Clarksons claims it costs just $73m to order a VLGC.
Pertamina has secured an option on a second vessel but no details have been disclosed.
Meanwhile, Norwegian owner Solvang has yet to decide whether to declare an option for a second VLGC at the same South Korean shipyard. The owner confirmed an order in June for one 84,000-cbm vessel said to be costing $77m. The option was to be declared in a month but sources say the deadline has been extended.
