Norwegian ro-ro operator Nor Lines has booked up to four LNG-powered newbuildings in China.
Bergen-based Nor Lines, part of Norway’s DSD group, has placed the contract at Tsuji Heavy Industries, it says in a statement.
The company has opted to use a pure gas engine from Rolls-Royce in each vessel.
It will take delivery of the two firm multi-purpose newbuildings in October 2013 and January 2014.
The other two vessels are options at this stage.
Nor Lines says the vessels, which won two awards last year, will cut carbon dioxide emissions by one third compares to its existing ships. Sulfur dioxide emissions will be downed by 90%.
