Norwegian shipowner Ocean Yield ASA has taken delivery of the 19,500teu containership MSC Mirjam from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

After being delivered from the shipyard, the vessel commenced a 15-year bareboat charter with Switzerland-based container line Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

Featuring 202,000 dwt, the Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV) was hired for US$46,250 per day, showed data provided by VesselsValue.

The boxship, which is the fourth in a series of six mega container vessels to be delivered to the company, is owned by Ocean Yield in a joint venture with Quantum Pacific Shipping, a part of Quantum Pacific Group.

The company acquired a 49.5% equity interest in the newbuildings for a total of US$162m in June 2016. The remaining boxships, all of which are on 15-year bareboat charters to the European container line, are scheduled for delivery by February 2017.

Samsung Heavy Industries delivered the third ULCV in the batch, the MSC Eloane, to Ocean Yield in late September.

So far this quarter, Ocean Yield ASA has received five vessels.
