Prices for VLCC newbuildings have dropped below $100m.
Clarksons now values a 310,000-dwt VLCC resale at $98m, down from $108m at the end of 2010.
It is the first time since the winter of 2009 that Clarksons has quoted values for the tankers under $100m
Today’s level of $98m matches the low point reached between September 2009 and early January 2010, Clarksons researchers say.
Earlier this month Clarksons priced a VLCC newbuilding at $101m and Fearnleys at $102m. The Norwegian broker has now dipped its valuation to $100m.
