Cape Resale for $48m
Sanko Steamship is understood to have renegotiated the sale of a newbuilding capesize it pulled from the S&P market in August due to low price offers.
After Cyprus Maritime was understood to have offered the “eyebrow-raising price” of $43.5m in August, Sanko removed the ship from sale, but now broker Galbraith’s reports rumours of a fresh deal at a price more in line with asset value estimates.
It said rumours “continue to swirl” about the 180,000 dwt resale vessel due for delivery from Imbari Shipbuilding in Japan this month.
“When the weak price was leaked into the market the vessel was failed by the sellers who, according to some sources, have now committed her to others at $48m,” Galbraith’s weekly report said.
If true, this is in line with price estimates from rival broker Clarksons for 180,000 dwt resale capesizes at $48m.
