Japanese shipping NYK Line has received a new 14,000teu container vessel, NYK Blue Jay, from the Kure shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation.
The vessel employs a hull form that allows for improved cargo-loading efficiency, which is achieved by minimizing engine-room space. The vessel's main engine is equipped with the patent system featuring two power ranges (high and low) allowing high speed operations and resulting in an improved fuel-consumption rate when slow-streaming.
NYK Blue Jay is the first of 10 container vessels to be chartered by NYK Line under time charter contracts with the owner. The other 9 vessels will be delivered and chartered until June 2018.
The vessel will be put into operation between Asia and Europe.
