China-based shipbuilder Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard has secured an order of up to seven ice-class container vessels from Denmark's Maersk Line, which will be a first for the yard in the construction of containerships.

The order is composed of five 3,600teu feederships with an overall length of 200m and the order has two options.

The cost of each ship is about US$39m, according to previous reports and recent sources.  The vessels will be wide-beamed and are scheduled for delivery from March 2017. They are part of Maersk's five-year US$15bn fleet renewal plan and it is expected to place orders for additional newbuildings in the first half of 2015.
