New York-listed Global Ship Lease (GSL) announced it had received an 8,063teu 2004-built container ship, the OOCL Qingdao (105,407dwt).

The vessel began a time charter to Orient Overseas Container Line (UK) on delivery, which is an affiliate of the seller. The lease time for the OOCL Qingdao is between 36 and 39 months at US$34,500 per day.

GSL is a container ship charter owner which is incorporated in the Marshall Islands with offices in London. This acquisition means that GSL's fleet has grown to 19 ships with a total capacity of 82,475teu.

GSL's CEO Ian Webber said, "Delivery of this vessel marks another important step for Global Ship Lease, expanding our annual EBITDA by US$9.4m and increasing our contracted revenue stream by between US$37.7m and US$40.9m, while strengthening our existing relationship with a world-class liner company in OOCL."
