Carsten Rehder of Germany has ordered a pair of 3,800teu newbuildings from China's Taizhou Catic Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.The company has not disclosed the value of the order, but did confirm it also includes options for an additional two vessels.
According to reports each vessel is expected to cost $50m.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in January and March 2013.
The order is the first ever boxship deal secured by the Chinese yard since its establishment in 2008.
Upon delivery the vessels will be chartered by Carsten Rehder to German liner operator Hamburg Sud.
