Shanghai port achieves higher volumes in September

China’s Shanghai port recorded higher container volumes in September compared to the same period a year ago, but volumes dropped on a month-on-month comparison, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).


In September, the world’s busiest container port achieved box throughput of 3.01m teu, an increase of 3.7% compared to 2.9m teu in September 2013, SIPG figures showed.


Last month’s volumes, however, dipped 3.2% compared to 3.11m teu seen in August this year.


In the first nine months of 2014, Shanghai port handled a total throughput of 26.45m teu, up 5.1% from 25.16m teu in the corresponding period of last year.
