Chinese ship export growth slowed down remarkably in the first half of the year.
The Ministry of Industry & Information Technology said during the Jan-June period Chinese shipyards exported $20.62bn worth of ships, up just 6.5% on the same period of last year.
During the same period of last year, ship exports skyrocketed by 47.3% y-o-y.
MIIT explains the slowing ship exports is due to low margin ships being delivered, which were ordered at Chinese yards after the global financial crisis.
Meanwhile, ship imports decreased by 1.9% to $1.02bn. During the same period of 2010, ship imports jumped 44.7%.
