Heerema builds largest crane ship
Heerema Marine Contractors of Netherlands looks to book an order for the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel.
The newbuilding price is likely to reach above $1bn and one of Korean yards is highly expected to win the new order, according to Upstream. On this new vessel, two units of 10,000-ton cranes seem to be equipped.
Heerema chief executive Jan-Pieter Klaver said that the company was considering a newbuilding project, expecting a final investment decision to be made early next year.
Anticipated to be delivered in 2017, this special ship is said to be targeting offshore platform decommissioning market.
Meanwhile, the Dutch company had taken delivery of deepwater construction vessel, ‘Aegir’, earlier this year from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of Korea.
