Sungdong wins Maersk TKs?
Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering is said to have won an order for newbuilding tankers up to 10 vessels from Danish owner Maersk Tankers.
According to TradeWinds, there are rumors spreading in broker industry that Maersk Tankers placed an order for four 50,000-dwt MR clean products tankers and two 115,000-dwt LR2 tankers, all due to be delivered during 2015-2016, at Sungdong in Korea.
MR tankers are said to cost around $34.5m-35m apiece, while LR2 to value $51m-51.5m. It is said that two optional vessels for each size of tankers are also included.
However, an official from Maersk Tankers said that the contract has not been officially signed but the company is considering newbuilding order for maintaining reasonable average age for its PC fleet.
