Pacific Basin Purchases Three Bulker
Hong Kong-based Pacific Basin Shipping has recently purchased three bulk carrier from Japan Sojitz Marine & Engineering Corporation as part of the plan of fleet expansion.
Pacific Basin is said to have bought the bulker “POS Leader”, “POS Knight” and “POS Jade” at the price of $16.0m apiece . The three units were all built in 2006 and originally chartered by the company
Since last September, Pacific Basin has expanded its fleet by 31 vessels, including 5 newbuilding units and a resale one. In this July, the company has purchased four bulkers, including the three units.
According to the the company’s CEO Mats Berglund, Pacific Basin will continue its plan to expand fleet size but will be more cautious with ship price increasing. “It is unreasonable for ship price to increase while freight rates not”, the CEO said.
