South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries keeps winning new order of large containerships from Greece's shipowners.
Reports from overseas have told that Hyundai Samho recently inked additional two ships of 6,700 TEU from Greece shipowner, Thenamaris and three same-sized vessels from Container Carriers Corp.
Deliveries for all vessels are told to be scheduled in 2013 and ship prices are unidentified.
Including recent five vessels, Hyundai Samho's boxship total order has increased to 28 vessels in 2011.
Thenamaris was known to proceed with newbuilding negotiations for two + two 6,000 TEU containerships with Hyundai Heavy Industries and Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and now reached its decision with Hyundai. However, it is yet to be revealed how many options are attached to the deal.
Shipbuilders offered $75m ~ $76m for a vessel, however, Thenamaris demanded further price reduction. Thenamaris mostly secures secondhand ships. Meanwhile, due to recent fall of newbuilding price, it orders newbuilding for the first time.
Also, Container Carriers Corp. ordered additional three 6,700 TEU boxships to Hyundai Samho, which seems that Container Carriers has exercised its options from the contract of two 6,700 TEU containerships in April.
Hyundai Samho shows satisfactory boxship outcome this year, scoring total 28 vessels of order, including five 4,500 TEUs, seven 6,700TEUs, six 9,000TEUs, ten 14,000TEUs, etc.
