KA policy seminar was held with an effort to vitalize shipbuilding and offshore plant industry at Geoje City Hall, South Gyeongsang Province, Korea, on July 22.
Led by Kim Han-Pyo, member of the National Assembly, Geoje City and Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST), the seminar was arranged to develop offshore plant industry into the nation’s strategic industry in cooperation with industry, academics and the government as well as to vitalize the industry.
The seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea, South Gyeongsang Province and Geoje city council. Kang Sa-Joon, senior vice president of Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association made a presentation under a title 'Strategies to develop offshore plant industry' and Lee Jong-Kap from KIOST presented under 'Establishment and management plan of offshore plant industry support center'.
Kang Sa-Joon stated that companies should promote diversification, cooperation and innovation, while the government support systematic policy, added "Current market crisis is an opportunity for the future of Korean shipbuilding and offshore industries."
Specifically, Kang suggested the promotion of technology competitiveness, research infrastructure, man power education, internationally connective cooperation, improvement of systems, enhanced supporting system and so on.
