Hanjin Sign Four 150K Bulkers
Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction inks a contract to build four 150,000 dwt bituminous coal carriers with comglomerate shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine on July 10 at Lotte Hotel Busan.
The four 150,000 dwt newbuildings are those won by Hyundai Merchant among nine units ordered from five subsidiaries of Korea Electric Power Corporation of Korea (KEPCO), slated for delivery later than 2015.
The four vessels placed at Hanjin have 273m of length and 46m of breadth each, with a price tag of around KRW 50bn ($43.8m) apiece.
The Korean builder expects to kickstart the construction from early next year after a period of time to prepare for ship design, supply and etc.
Meanwhile, it has been five years for Hanjin’s Yeongdo yard to sign a contract for construction of commercial ship excluding several special vessels, such as warship and etc., since September, 2008.
