Samsung Ningbo Seals MRs
Samsung Heavy Industries’ Ningbo corporate in China, Samsung Heavy Industries (Ningbo) Co., has inked an agreement for construction of four firm with the same number of options attached of MR tankers.
The Ningbo corporate had put pens on a letter of intent (LOI) for 52,000 dwt MR product tankers with Greek owner Capital Maritime & Trading led by Evangelos Marinakis and finally finalized the newbuilding project recently.
An official at Ninbo corporate said over a rumor that the newbuilds cost around $32m apiece, “The price is similar to what it has been estimated but the accurate one cannot be disclosed.”
The series tankers up to eight vessels, including four firm and four options, are slated for delivery in early 2015.
Established in 1995, Samsung’s Ningbo corporate began its operation from 1997 and has manufactured hull blocks onshore in an area of 300,000 square meters. The corporate also entered into newbuilding business in 2012 when it won 17,000 dwt heavy lifter from S&P Marine.
