Jiangsu Order Intakes Surge
Amid dismal global market condition, Jiangsu Province, the largest shipbuilding complex in China is going through a crisis of having three shipbuilding indexes (delivery, order intake, orderbook) go downwards in 2013, however still secures the most favorable track record in China.
According to data from the Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission of China, in this year to May, Jiangsu yards delivered a total of 157 vessels of 5.92m dwt declining by 22.3% in dwt terms from a year ago, of which the number of vessels 13 major builders delivered was 88 totalling 4.827m dwt, accounting for 81.5% of total delivery in Jiangsu.
In the year to May, Jiangsu yards won orders for 161 vessels of 4.814m dwt increasing by 194.4% in dwt terms from the same time period a year ago, of which ships for export accounted for 88.4% of total, 13.2% of global market and 35.0% share of Chinese market.
Especially, 13 major builders won 71 vessels of a combined 3.838m dwt, taking 79.7% of total.
As of the end of May, orderbook of Jiangsu shipbuilding industry stood at 830 vessels of 38.275m dwt declining by 23.8% from a year ago in dwt terms, of which ships for export accounted for 86.5% of total, 15.7% of global market and 37.0% of Chinese market.
Orderbook of 13 builders in Jiangsu was tallied to be 433 vessels of 32.748m dwt, taking 85.7% of total.
