Japanese Halt in New Orders
Ship values for bulker and tanker, which have been in a downturn under the influence of depression of shipping market, are getting even more downward pressures.
Efforts of Japanese shipyards to win some order have been hampered by continued fall on ship values.
They do hesitate to sign new orders as loss-making is inevitable amid prolonged strong Yen situation against US dollar and a rise in steel prices.
Meanwhile, as some Chinese shipbuilders, which face work shortages by decrease in large-ship order, are now starting to win orders for small-and-medium bulker, ship prices will be dropped further.
Sources from Japanese shipbuilders said that in case of panamax bulker, ship owners require about 10% lower prices than that from the end of last year.
Japanese shipbuilders are at the end of its rope by increase in steel prices and fall in ship prices.
