Tsakos Energy Navigation has beefed up the size of its newbuilding LNG carriers on order at Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The capacity of the firm one and optional one unit, previously contracted with 162,000 cbm, have been boosted to 174,000 cbm.
Nikolas Tsakos, Tsakos' chief executive, explained “We have increased the size of the vessel to reflect the longer term prospects of the LNG market.”
The firm tri-fuel LNG carrier is to be delivered in 2015. Tsakos said the company should exercise the option until this July and if the option is exercised, it is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2015.
