Commodities trader Trafigura has booked four 50,000 dwt MR product tankers at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), with an option for an additional four units.
The options are expected to be exercised separately in July and September this year.
The latest contract marks the largest product tanker order for GSI this year. GSI is hoping to use the Trafigura deal to raise its international standing in the construction of MR tankers.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The deal was reportedly inked on 15 May.
On top of the recent deal, Trafigura is also planning to build four ultramax bulkers, and GSI is reportedly one of the yards that could win the deal.
