Chinese Ink Feeder Boxships
Growing number of overseas shipowners are placing orders for feeder newbuilding boxships at Chinese shipyards.
Cape Shipping of Greece, which booked an order for 2,200-teu containerships at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in August 2012, added similar-sized boxship duo.
Market players said the recently ordered newbuildings cost around $26m apiece, with delivery due in October 2015 and January 2016 each, while the previously contracted ones slated for delivery in 2014.
Meanwhile, German owner Bernhard Schulte is said to be in negotiation to award another order for 2,300-teu containerships at Yangfan. Sources said Schulte is considering to exercise existing options for four vessels, at the same time add options for further four.
The German owner placed an order for 4+4 2,300-teu containerships, valued in $26m each, at Yangfan in October last year.
