Hyundai Wins $15.4bn Orders
Hyundai Heavy Industries has already signed $15.4bn, 71-ship orders so far this year, attaining 78% of its annual order target of $19.8bn in the shipbuilding and offshore engineering division including Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries' orders.
Most recently, the South Korean shipbuilding giant inked four 9,600-teu containerships with Greece's NS Lemos, it revealed.
Hyundai won six same-type newbuildings back in March this year from Germany's Hamburg Sud with options for four more.
And now the options seem to have been firmed up by the Greek owner on charter contracts to the German counterpart.
In March the newbuilding price was around $118m per ship and the latest price tag is estimated to be similar with that.
Meanwhile, Hyundai said it is sitting on a couple of optional contracts including drillships set to be exercised before the summer vacation begins at the end of this month.
If the options are firmed up as scheduled the shipbuilder might accomplish around 90% of its annual order target before the two-week-long summer holidays.
