Jiangsu Yards Pick up

Amid a downturn in shipbuilding and related industries, shipbuilding industry in Jiangsu Province, China is seen to pick up in deliveries, new order intakes and etc. with all showing an uptrend as of March.
During the first quarter, Jiangsu delivered a total of 103 vessels of a combined 3.72m dwt, showing a 7.4% increase from the same quarter of the previous year in dwt terms. Among them, export ships accounted for 84.8% in total, 12.5% in the global market and 39.4% in Chinese market.  
Year-to-March, shipbuilders in Jiangsu won new orders for 91 vessels of 1.69m dwt, showing a year-on-year rise of 32.8%, among them 89.9% was ordered from foreign shipowners, which accounts for 8.2% in the global market and 17.7% in Chinese market.  
As of the end of March, Jiangsu’s shipyard orderbook dropped by 27.7% to 832 vessels of 37.91m dwt year-on-year in dwt terms and 85.8% of it were ships for exports, which represents 15.4% in the global market with 35.4% in Chinese market.
During the same period, the four major cities in Jiangsu, including Taizhou, Nantong, Yangzhou and Nanjing, delivered as much as 96.3% in total of Jiangsu with a cluster of shipbuilding industry forming speedily. Particularly, Taizhou shipyards delivered vessels of 46.6% in total, showing the fastest growth among four.
Moreover, deliveries of 13 major shipbuilders in Jiangsu totalled 3.13m dwt, 84% in total of Jiangsu, fighting well leading the industry.
