STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of Korea has won a deal for construction of three 12,000 cbm LPG/ethylene carriers with Unigas pool member shipowners - Othello Shipping, Schulte and Sloman Neptun.
The contract is an option exercised, attached to three firm vessels of the same type ordered last year. The series of six vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2014-2015.
Moreover, the Unigas partners are said to have secured an option for another three sister ships.  
The six newbuildings were believed to be costing around $32m per ship, however the ships now cost in the range of $35m-36m each, as newbuilding prices of the vessel type have increased by 10% over the past year.
