Norden Eyes Eco Bulker
Norden is considering to add more eco-design bulkers into its fleet. The Danish shipowner's chairman Mogens Hugo said the company plans to replace chartered ships with fuel-efficient newbuildings, noting “We see that prices of new dry cargo vessels have reached a level where it really makes sense to increase investments in this segment.”
With 11 newbuilding bulkers on its backlog already, Norden seeks to keep investing in eco fleet expansion.
Mr. Hugo said “We have already sold some of our least fuel efficient vessels, and the sales proceeds can be reinvested by contracting and entering into long-term charters with purchase option on some of the most modern and fuel efficient vessels ever built.”
The company will focus on fleet expansion in handymax and panamax segments and it is even considering retrofiting its existing vessels to enhance fuel efficiency.
