More Greek Eye LNG Debut
Four potential Greek LNG debutantes are talking with shipyards as noted Greek tanker owner clinches a pair of 160,000-cbm LNG carriers at Samsung.
Thenamaris Ships Management has inked contracts for two new LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries.
The Thenamaris ships, which are of 160,000 cbm capacity, are scheduled for delivery in late 2013 and early 2014.
George Economou is also in talks for two to four LNG carriers with both Samsung and Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Mr Economou, who was said to be travelling this week, is said to be both “serious” and “getting close” by those close to the owner’s plans.
Theodore Angelopoulos’ Metrostar is another company known to be in negotiations with HHI, the owner’s favoured builder, for an unconfirmed number of units.
At least two blue-chip Greek shipowning names are also involved in talks for LNG carriers with major Asian builders on the basis of conversions of existing large bulk carrier or tanker newbuilding contracts.
