Sumitomo Heavy Industries is said to have won an order to build a 104,000-dwt tanker, slated for delivery in mid-2014, from Finnish owner Lundqvist Rederierna.
Brokers estimated the aframax would cost around $47m and it is unclear whether any options are attached or not.
Meanwhile, the Japanese shipyard recently revealed that it was awarded an order for one modern eco-design tanker to be delivered in the second half of 2014, which consumes 10-15% less fuel, last month.
But it is unclear if the Lundqvist deal is the one announced by Sumitomo then.
Sumitomo is said to be in talks with several owners for three more aframax tankers.
