An unrevealed Chinese owner has been reported to purchase four boxships from Japanese liner MOL - 4,646TEU “MOL Efficiency, “MOL Expeditor” and “MOL Express” built in 2003 as weel as another 4,803TEU “MOL Experience” built in 2007. The contract value has not been disclosed.
In the last two years, MOL has witnessed a loss over $300m. Shipbrokers says the company is likely to strengthen its cash flow by disposing of the four vessels.
According to UK-based shipbroker EA Gibson, more small vessels are to be replaced by bigger ones with owner continuing fleet regeneration. Secondhand vessels built in 1990s are more popular in transactions than those built after 2000.
