Charter owner Seaspan dominated containership contracting in January, ordering 9 boxships of a combined 110,000 TEU. The Canadian company ordered 5+5 x 14,000 TEU vessels at Hyundai H.I., with delivery of the firm vessels scheduled for 2015. Seaspan also declared four further options for 10,000 TEU vessels to be built at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang, taking the total number of vessels in the series to eleven. Pricing is reported to be in the region of $90m per ship, with delivery planned for 2014. Elsewhere, it emerged that Pacific International Lines have taken up four further options for wide-beam 3,900 TEU vessels at Dalian Shipbuilding, taking the total series to eight. This deal is understood to have been concluded in late 2012, with the vessels due to be delivered in 2014, at a price of $41m each. Finally, Hoegh Autoliners placed an order for three 8,500 ceu PCCs at Xiamen S.B. for a reported $67.5m each. These car carriers, amongst the largest ever built, will be delivered from 2015.
