Goodearth Maritime of India plans to order eco-design newbuilding bulkers next year.

The Chennai-based shipowner is under discussion to order up to four 40,000-dwt bulkers at overseas shipyards and is to make final decision on newbuilding investment within this year.

The company sold six modern bulkers in 2012 and senior executive V Ganapathi Rao explained that those vessels were built by Indian shipyards in older designs and were not fuel efficient.

He said, “We are concentrating on fuel-efficient ships.”
