Chinese Plate Prices Marked up
Offered prices of China's marine thick plate to be exported turn out to have massively risen.
Recently, China's second-level steel maker offered $620-$630 per ton (CFR) for the offered prices in March and April, up by $30-$40 per ton month-on-month.
Chinese steel industry has made attempts to market up prices since October, 2012, and has been maintaining offered prices of around $580 per ton for the last three months.
Meanwhile, rising offered prices of general thick plates in China boosted prices of marine thick plates, as well. Chinese steel manufacturers recently offer thick-plate prices for export marked up by $50/ton against the previous month to $600/ton.
One market player in China said, Korean shipbuilders are declining to accept the increased offered prices, however, rise in prices is current trend, which seems inevitable. Therefore, shipyards would necessarily deal in the prices mark up.
