Statistics show that totally 376 secondhand bulker carriers of 23.64m dwt have been changed hand in 2012.
Greece is still the biggest buyer by winning 82 secondhand bulkers in the last year while Chinese owner purchased 52. The average age of the secondhand ships inked by Greece is about 8.9 years, much younger than the global average 15 years. On the contrary, that of bulkers won by China is about 20.7 years, almost 1.5-time older than that of Greece.
As for detailed ship types, about 46 Capesize bulkers, 82 Panamax units, 111 Handymax units and 137 Handysize units were transacted. Japanese shipbuilder has built 271 of the totally 376 secondhand bulkers while Chinese and Korean builders built 10% of the total separately.
