Norwegian shipowner giant John Fredriksen’s new vehicle, Frontline 2012 has reportedly signed Letters of Intent with two China-based shipyards to build up to 14 capesize bulkers.
The shipyards are said to be China's state-owned Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) and Korea's STX Group-affiliated STX Dalian shipyard.
Industry sources report that Frontline 2012 eyes four plus two optional 180,000DWT newbuildings at SWS, while the owner plans to build four plus four optional capesizes at STX Dalian.
Newbuilding price is said to be around $45-46m per ship for delivery in 2014 and 2015.
Meanwhile, STX Dalian had won six MR PCs from the same shipowner last year.
