Chinese shipbuilders built 3.65m dwt of newbuildings in May, occupying 41.7% of the global market.
South Korea ranked 2nd with 33.6% share of the global newbuilding deliveries in the month.
World shipyards delivered 8.76m dwt newbuildings in May, down 21.6% year-on-year and down 32.2% month-on-month.
Last month 73 new bulkers of 5.52m dwt, 12 tankers of 1.44m dwt and 19 containerships of 129,400 teu entered the market.
Meanwhile, Chinese built 25m dwt in the first five months while winning new ship orders of 18m dwt. Deliveries increased 6% year-on-year but new orders fell 7.8% during the months.
