Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd announced on December 24th that the company has successfully designed the world’s sixth generation 18,000dwt Capesize bulkers. Two famous European shipping companies have placed an order for the construction of 6+2+2 units at the shipyard as the first buyer for the new ship.
The new Capesize is applying non-bulbous-bow design to reduce the water resistance for better technical economy. Besides, the ship will use new type engine to reduce energy consumption by 20% and increase the transport capacity by 30%. The energy-efficient bulker can satisfy multiple environmental requirements of IACS and IMO.
In the past two decades, Shanghai Waigaoqiao has totally secured newbuilding orders for about 180 Capesize bulkers and delivered over 100 units,  World No.1 by occupying about 40% of Capesize newbuilding market globally.
Since 1999 October, Shanghai Waigaoqiao has gradually developed six generations of Capesize bulkers and formed its unique product series.
