Seaspan is under negotiations with Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding of China to build a pair of 10,000 teu newbuilding containerships each.
Waiting for a sale of perpetual preferred shares, Seaspan hopes to use cash from an upcoming fundraiser in newbuilding investment.
The US-listed company is said to anticipate eight to ten-year time charters for newbuilding boxship quartet, with delivery due in 2014.
Meanwhile, Seaspan is also in talks with the same shipbuilders to buy two 4,600 teu boxships, slated for delivery in the second half of 2013.
