Fukuoka Shipbuilding of Japan recently announced that it obtained approval in principle for LNG-powered 12,500-dwt chemical tanker by DNV.
This is the world first LNG-fuelled chemical tanker developed.
The vessel has been developed to sail in emission control areas in European waters and round voyages of an Atlantic line.
Also, Fukuoka is said to be in talks with several owners.
The newly developed ship will be equipped with Wartsila 9 L34DF dual-fuel diesel engine as a main engine and power generator and auxiliary boiler are also adaptable to both LNG and heavy oil fuels.
The vessel reduces green-house gas emissions by 25%, NOx by 85% and SOx by almost 100%, comparing with same-size ships on the market.
