While there is a craze for offshore business in China, market players pointed out Chinese shipbuilders should better position themselves to win in a market and must stop blaming the market stagnancy for their difficulties.
A secretary general Wang Jinlian of the China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) said there would be no bad times in the market for Chinese shipbuilders but they should find their own capability and position to survive and develop.
Mr Wang had a press conference at INMEX China 2012 and emphasized Fujian Southeast Shipyard and Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group would lead the future market.
Fujian Shipbuilding-affiliated Fujian Southeast Shipyard is specialized in anchor handling tug supply vessels and according to Clarksons, of the yard's overall 28 ships on order, 18 are AHTS units.
He highlighted "CANSI plans to support shipyards' efforts in boosting offshore capacity to enhance the localization rate, but not to add more to the general assembling capacity."
Mr Wang said Chinese shipyard should achieve "rational development" of the march into offshore, where Korea and Singapore have already made huge advances.
