In response to the new round of global reconstruction in the shipbuilding industry, many shipbuilding enterprises in Dalian have been developing new ships to meet the demands of the international market, Dalian Daily reported.
Facing surplus of shipping capacity and productivity, as well as lack of demands in the shipbuilding market, shipbuilding enterprises in Dalian are making efforts to innovate products and research energy-saving and environmentally-friendly ships. Meanwhile, enterprises are paying attention to cost accuracy controls.
Ofuna Group and China Shipbuilding Trade Company (CSTC) recently signed a contract to build four 3,800-container ships with Pacific International Lines, Singapore.
The container ships, environmentally-friendly and with excellent performance standards, were newly-developed by Ofuna Group with independent intellectual property rights.
Cosco Dalian Shipyard Co signed FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offload) renovation projects with Mitsui and Brazil EEP this year. The FPSO renovation contracts are worth over $170 million this year.
In the second half of 2012, STX Dalian Group also agreed on a contract for floating storage equipment worth of $430 million with North Africa Petroleum.
Dalian shipbuilding enterprises are also strictly controlling operational risks and trying to attain more information from ship-owners in a bid to develop new types of energy-saving and environmentally-friendly tank ships and large bulk-cargo ships.
